The Economist, Travel & Leisure Named Outstanding 2007 Newsstand Performers

The Economist
and Travel & Leisure have earned 2007 “Outstanding Performer” status from The New Single Copy (May 5th) for achieving 10 uninterrupted years of retail revenue gains.

The U.S. edition of The Economist, published by The Economist Newspapers, Ltd., has made the outstanding performer category since the award category was established in the late 90’s. Last year, its unit sales increased by 10.3% even as it raised cover price by $1, to $5.99. Retail dollars sales totaled $19.7 million.

American Express’s Travel & Leisure has seen retail revenue increase by 70% over the past decade, without no price increase since 1999, and its sales efficiencies have consistently stayed at about 40%.

NSC also tracks “Notable Achievers” that have increased revenue for five years in a row. Magazines newly joining that list in 2007 include Dwell, The New Yorker, Weight Watchers and Wired. Those that made the list again last year include Army Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Marine Corps Times, Men’s Health, More, Real Simple and Us Weekly.
